You need to be covered by a valid TV License to watch or record television programmes as they are shown on TV. This is the case whether you are watching the programmes on TV or any other device, such as a mobile phone or a PC.
Anybody who is not correctly licensed risks prosecution and a possible fine of up to £1000. A colour license currently costs £145.50 and black and white license costs £49.
