U3a The University of the third age Saffron Walden

We are a self-help group of individuals residing in and around the ancient town of Saffron Walden. Our present membership is over 500.

New members are welcome to join us. We are a self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operative for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for our members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

Saffron Walden U3A has Open Meetings with a guest speaker on the 3rd Monday monthly (unless otherwise advised). These are at 2.30 p.m in the United Reformed Church Hall, Abbey Lane, Saffron Walden during the Summer term, and in the Bowls Club (also in Abbey Lane) during Winter and Spring terms.

The Theatre and Travel Club has a range of trips to places of interest, and to theatres and concerts, with usually at least one per month. Holidays are also arranged for members. Details are included below, and on sub-group page. The group meets on the last Friday monthly at 2 p.m. in the Baptist Hall, to discuss and take bookings for future outings. Click on to Theatre and Travel for contact details on sub-group page.

The Birdwatching group also has regular outings by shared car to various sites on a regular basis.

See also our separate page of National events, via the link in the margin to a separate page.

Our Classes and Activities are listed on our website. These meet weekly, unless otherwise shown, and autumn/spring/summer terms are similar to those for schools.

Information about the class content may be obtained from the Class Coordinator (See Contacts) or for general information, you may refer to Irene Bedward (01799-528178), our Committee member with responsibility for Classes and Activities.
