Elbow Grease Co-operative Ltd is a non-for profit organisation comprising of a group of adults with learning disabilities supported by two paid members of staff and a small team of volunteers.
Elbow Grease originated from the development of an earlier initiative called CARS (Community Access Respite Support). Members involved themselves in helping others and raising money for other local community projects. Following consultation with our members, it was identified that the members gained personally from this active involvement and to sustain the idea of this, Elbow Grease was evolved.
The ethos of the group is to give its members new experiences and support them to value others needs as well as their own. Encouragement has been given to support the Members to make self governing decisions at a pace that maintains effective organisations and consistency.
Our members benefit from this project because they feel that they are making good use of their time and contributing to their local community, they have increased social interaction and inclusion within thier local community and improved skills base.
Their skill base is built upon to increase their own independence.
