United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy

The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy's (UKCP) purpose is to promote the art and science of psychotherapy for the public benefit; to promote research and education in psychotherapy and disseminate the results of any such research; and to promote (or assist in the promotion, preservation and protection of public health by encouraging) high standards of training and practice in psychotherapy and the wider provision of psychotherapy for the public. UKCP regards the regulation of psychotherapists and the public accountability of their practice as of paramount importance. This is in order to safeguard the interests of patients and clients and the reputation of registered practitioners. UKCP exists to promote and maintain the profession of psychotherapy and the highest standards in the practice of psychotherapy throughout the United Kingdom, for the benefit of the public. The service is open to psychotherapists wishing to register and provides lists of UKCP registered psychotherapists in local areas to the public.
