Health and Safety Executive

The objective of the Health and Safety Executive's medical division is to produce practical guidelines to help organisations form their own mental health policy. The guidelines aim to promote mental health at work and to prevent mental ill health; aid recognition of potential mental health problems; provide a basis for education and training; outline the processes of intervention; and facilitate rehabilitation and resettlement at work after sickness absence. Pre-existing mental illness, its treatment and rehabilitation are outside the scope of this guidance. The Health and Safety Executive produces a leaflet and booklet on mental health and stress at work; these publications as well as further advice on them are available from the above address.
