Motability

Welcome to Motability

Over the past 30 years Motability has helped over three million people get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance for a brand new car, scooter or powered wheelchair. The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to exchange either their Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance or their War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement to obtain a new car, powered wheelchair or scooter.

If you are disabled, you may be able to exchange your mobility allowance to get a vehicle that suits your needs. What's more you don't even need to drive. Family, friends or carers can drive on your behalf.

Eligibility

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) (currently £54.05 per week) or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS) (currently £60.40 per week), you're eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

Other eligibility facts

There is no upper age limit. As long as you receive one of the allowances, you are eligible for the Scheme. Parents or guardians can order a car on behalf of a child aged three years and above, who is receiving HRMC DLA.

To lease a car through Motability, you must have at least 12 months' award length remaining. Only the Higher Rate Mobility Component is used. Other parts of the DLA are not affected.

The Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through Motability.
