A credit union is a mutual financial co-operative, which provides a convenient savings and low cost loans service to its members. There are around 600 credit unions in England, Scotland and Wales, providing financial services to around half a million people.
Harlowsave Credit Union provides straightforward, affordable and accessible financial services for all who live or work in Harlow. If you live, work or study within postcodes CM17, CM18, CM19 or CM20 you are eligible to apply for membership.
Members save regularly throughout their membership - these savings are called "shares". This means that, so long as you don't withdraw shares too often, your savings continue to improve.

Loans
Any member of the credit union may apply for a loan at any time, but we normally expect people to have saved for a short period before applying for a loan. Our interest rates start at 6.2% APR for our Security Loan. Our most popular loan is the Saver Loan which is charged at 1% per month on the reducing balance (12.6%APR).
Even whilst re-paying a loan the minimum savings need to be made, so that when the loan is paid the member has more savings than before they took out the loan.
We assess all loan applications based on the individual member's circumstances and a previous poor credit history does not prevent you getting a loan from us as long as you disclose this history and can evidence your ability to afford the repayments. We do ask for supporting information and the more of this you are able to supply with your loan application the more likely your application is to be successful.
