Action For Family Carers

Harlow Young Carers help support young people between the ages of 8 to 18 who may have a caring role at home. This could be help to look after a parent, sibling or other family member. The person they care for may suffer from:

  • disability
  • mental health problems
  • chronic ill health
  • drug and alcohol misuse

How we can support Young Carers?

When someone in your family has an illness, a disability or a problem with drugs/alcohol, you can have a lot of confusing feelings. That's normal. You are not alone; there are thousands of young people, like you, in the UK.

We understand the problems you face each day, and try to provide a service that you will find helpful and hopefully enjoy.

We offer a Young Carers Youth Club for two age groups one for 8 to 12 year olds, one for 12-18 year olds. We meet at The Xperience Centre in the Sumners estate during term time. This is a chance to meet other young carers, try new things and just have fun! There is also an opportunity to work towards accreditations , for example, Arts Awards, First Aid and Food Hygiene certificates.

During the school holidays we strive to get together offering various activities, trips out or projects. This is dependent on funding available to us.

Some of the trips we have been on in the past have been to the cinema, bowling, the theatre and outdoor pursuits centre.
